Currently, there are 431,568 companies and enterprises operating in Istanbul, Trend reports referring to Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO).
According to the chamber, the largest number of them falls on construction companies involved in housing construction (32,821 companies).
Second in the list are textile companies (19,324). Restaurants and companies that provide catering services ranked third (17,316) followed by companies providing services for business support (15,137).
According to ITO, the fifth largest number of companies operating in Istanbul accounts for retail enterprises (14,986).
The sixth place in the list is occupied by transport companies that carry out passenger transportation between cities (14,653).
The seventh place is taken by media outlets and publishing houses (14,112) followed by architectural and engineering companies (12,620). The list continues with IT companies (12,532) that ranked the ninth.
The top 10 list is concluded by the companies operating in wholesale trade (12,307).
According to ITO, the remaining 265,760 companies and enterprises in Istanbul operate in other sectors of the economy.
