Turkish ministry discloses data on cargo transshipment via Izmir port

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 1

Transshipment of goods through the Turkish port of Izmir exceeded 2.8 million tons from January through April 2020, Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend on June 1.

According to the ministry, during the reporting period, 164,012 tons were transported by the ships flying the Turkish flag in the port of Izmir, while more than 2.7 million tons of cargo were handled by ships flying the flags of other countries.

"From January through April 2020, 30,914 tons of cargo were transited through the Izmir port," the ministry said.

In the first four months of this year, the volume of cargo transshipment through the ports of Turkey amounted to more than 123.4 million tons.

Meanwhile, the volume of cargo handled by ships flying the Turkish flag surpassed 9.6 million tons.

The volume of cargo transshipment through Turkish ports by ships flying the flags of their countries amounted to 4.9 million tons, while the cargo transshipment by ships flying the flags of other countries stood at 108.8 million tons from January through April 2020.

Over the reporting period, over 24.9 million tons of cargo were transited through the ports of Turkey.

The volume of cargo transshipment through Turkish ports amounted to more than 28.8 million tons in April 2020.

In the reporting month, the volume of cargo transshipment through Turkish ports by ships flying the flags of their countries amounted to 2.2 million tons, while cargo transshipment by ships flying the flags of other countries stood at 25.6 million tons.

According to the ministry, 6.5 million tons of cargo was transported in transit through the ports of Turkey in March 2020.
