Cargo freight in Turkey's Sabiha Gokcen Airport drops

The volume of air cargo transportation in Turkish Sabiha Gokcen Airport from January through May 2020 amounted to 71,959 tons, which is more than half-less compared to the same period of 2019, Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend on June 9.

According to the ministry, over the reporting period, 30,765 tons of cargo were transported by domestic flights, which is 44 percent less compared to the first five months in 2019.

"During the reporting period, 41,194 tons of cargo were transported via the Sabiha Gokcen Airport by international flights, which is 55 percent less compared to the same period in 2019," the ministry said.

From January through May this year, the Sabiha Gokcen Airport served slightly over 7 million passengers, which is 49 percent less compared to the same period in 2019.

Meanwhile, 4.3 million passengers were served by domestic flights (50 percent drop), and 2.7 million passengers by external flights (47 percent decline).

In the first five months of 2020, 48,417 flights were carried out at the Sabiha Gokcen Airport (48 percent less than in the same period in 2019), of which 28,666 were domestic (47 percent down), and 19,751 international flights (decrease by 48 percent).

In the reporting period, air traffic in Turkey decreased by 46.5 percent and amounted to 304,121 flights.

As of June 1, 33.7 million passengers were served and 922,610 tons of cargo were transported at all Turkish airports.
