Azerbaijan's import of jewelry from Turkey slumps sharply

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 29

The volume of jewelry export from Turkey to Azerbaijan slumped by 87.08 percent in the first five months of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019, having stood at $288,000, Turkey’s Trade Ministry told Trend.

In May of this year, Turkey’s export of jewelry to Azerbaijan plummeted by 99.89 percent compared to the same month of 2019, amounting to $130.

Export of jewelry from Turkey to international markets dropped by 11.8 percent from January through May 2020, compared to the same period of 2019, having made up $1.2 billion.

According to the ministry, this amount accounted for 2.1 percent of the country’s total export for the reporting period.

In May 2020, Turkey exported the jewelry in the amount of $225.4 million to foreign markets, which is 37.4 percent less compared to the same month of 2019, the ministry said.

Turkey’s export of jewelry abroad for May this year made up 2.3 percent of the country’s total export.

During the last twelve months (from May 2019 through May 2020), Turkey exported $3.9 billion worth of the jewelry abroad.
