Turkey announces commissioning of high-speed railway in 2023 (Exclusive)

Turkey will commission railway connecting Afyonkarahisar, Manisa, Usak and Izmir provinces in 2023, the country’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

According to the ministry, the construction of the 346-km railway began in 2007.

"The total cost of the project is 9.6 million Turkish liras ($720 million), but this figure may become higher," said the ministry.

The ministry spent over 1.8 billion Turkish liras ($130 million) on the project in 2021, and almost 3.2 billion Turkish liras ($240 million) in 2020.

Overall, in 2021, over 42.4 billion liras ($5 billion) were allocated for the implementation of transport and infrastructure projects in Turkey, nearly 6 billion liras ($710 million) of which were attracted via foreign loans.

In 2020, 282.7 billion liras ($33.28 billion) were allocated for the implementation of transport and infrastructure projects in Turkey.
