Turkish ports handled 4.8 million tons of cargo from Russia in January 2022, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend.
Ships under the Turkish flag delivered 229,911 tons of freight from Russia to domestic ports, and ships flying the flags of other countries – 3.9 million tons.
During this period, Russian-flagged vessels transported 693,454 tons of cargo to Turkish ports.
In January 2022, Turkish ports handled 324,158 tons of transit cargo from Russia.
In general, Turkey delivered 33.3 million tons of cargo in January 2022 via local ports.
Cargo traffic by ships flying the flag of Turkey totaled 2.4 million tons, whereas transportation through ships under the flags of foreign countries reached 30.9 million tons.
Moreover, the ports of Turkey handled 7.6 million tons of transit cargo in the reporting period.
Totally, Turkey transported 386.39 million tons of cargo in 2021 via its ports.
During the reporting period, freight transportation by ships under the flag of Turkey via domestic ports amounted to 29.99 million tons, and by ships under the flags of other countries reached 356.39 million tons.
Furthermore, Turkish ports transshipped 78 million tons of transit cargo in 2021.
