Trend:

Azerbaijani President Aliyev's visit to Washington was significant in terms of both form and substance, Matthew Bryza, former US assistant secretary for South Caucasus and former US ambassador to Azerbaijan, told Trend by phone Apr. 1.

The Azerbaijani president was able to meet one-on-one with both US Vice President Joe Biden and US Secretary of State John Kerry for in-depth discussion of the Southern Gas Corridor, the US mediation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and internal developments within Azerbaijan, said Bryza, who is currently a board member at Turcas Petrol, one of Turkey's biggest energy companies.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Vice President of the US Joe Biden March 31. Earlier, the Azerbaijani president met US Secretary of State John Kerry.

Private discussions of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev with John Kerry and Joe Biden allowed for more detailed discussions than all the attendees at the nuclear summit were able to have during their brief encounters with President Obama, Bryza said.

Having met with both Azerbaijani President Aliyev and Armenian President Sargsyan during these past days, Vice President Biden may have had a chance to help reenergize the work of the OSCE Minsk Group on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, according to Bryza.
