“If there are violations of international standards during the 6 November parliamentary elections, the country will make a great step backward on the way of democratic development,” Eldar Namazov, the President of the For Azerbaijan’ public fund, also co-constitutor of Yeni Siyasat’ (New Policy) election bloc, said. He was commenting the statement of Julia Finli, the U.S. Ambassador at the OSCE, that Washington worries about the reports on police violence during the unsanctioned actions of the opposition in Azerbaijan’.

Namazov also stressed that the OSCE gave negative appraisal of use of force during the actions of the opposition by the police. “There are two weeks until the parliamentary elections and the police only intensify tension in the country,” he added.

In his turn, MP Anar Mammadkhanov underlined that nobody ought to make statements on the base of rumors. According Mammadkhanov, the statement of the Ambassador must be based on concrete names and surnames of the people subjected to the violence by the police.

Finli also stated that the United States called on the Azerbaijani authorities to demonstrate additional flexibility and imitativeness in ensuring of freedom of assembly. The U.S. Ambassador turned to both sides with call to restore the dialogue.
