Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 9 / Trend M.Aliyev /

The Azerbaijani National Council for Radio and Television (NTRC) insists on the cessation of broadcasting programs on TV channels, which cause social dissatisfaction.

"If the television channels broadcast programs causing great social discontent, then based on the opinions of the expert group serving under the council, an appropriate decision will be made in respect of these channels," Chairman Nushirevan Maharramli told Trend.

He said if a ban is imposed on one- two programs that caused public outrage over a year, it will be a lesson to others.

The chairman submitted an appeal to the Azerbaijani government with a request to authorize a full or partial suspension of broadcasting of certain programs on private television channels.

Currently, the council has no authority to interfere in the creative activity of private television channels.

NRTC has repeatedly called TV to broadcast programs of educational nature.
