By Demir Azizov- Trend:

Navoiazot OJSC, Uzbekistan's largest chemical plant has prolonged an international tender for the modernization of the nitric acid production with the starting price of $185 million, the enterprise announced.

The deadline for the competition proposals is extended until Nov. 5 by the decision of the tender committee. Its results will be summed in the first quarter of 2015.

It was reported that the tender was announced in early August, and the deadline for bids on the tender expired in mid-September, it was planned to sum up its results by the end of this year.

"It was decided to extend the tender due to the lack of competitive bids," the representative of the plant told Trend Oct.1.

The winner of the tender must deal with 'turnkey' construction of the nitric acid production facility until 2017 according to the tender terms.

The project worth $ 209.9 million envisages reconstruction of nitric acid aggregates on the basis of new energy and technological equipment.

The non-concentrated nitric acid production capacity will be increased by 1.4 times - up to 500,000 metric tons per year, natural gas consumption will be reduced by 20.9 million cubic meters, power consumption - by 22 million kilowatt hours during the reconstruction.

The project will be financed through the Uzbek side's own funds and loans from international financial institutions.

In 2013, "Navoiazot" held two tenders - for the construction of chemical plants for the production of ammonia and carbamide with a starting price of $800 million and for the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), caustic soda and methanol ($440 million).

The first tender was canceled, the winner of the second tender became China National Chemical Engineering Company. Starting price of the contract was $440 million. Winner of the tender was to construct chemical complex with a design capacity of 100,000 metric tons of PVC, 71800 metric tons of caustic soda and 295400 metric tons of methanol per year.

However, the contract with the Chinese company was not signed due to the fact that CNCEC failed to provide a reasonable financial offer and contract negotiations stalled.

"Navoiazot" JSC (former Navoi chemical plant), the largest chemical company in Uzbekistan, was commissioned in 1964. The factory specializes in the production of nitrogen fertilizers, nitronic fiber as well as in integrated production of organic synthesis.
