The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) can complete the process of closing the gas blowout and connect the emergency well at the Bulla Deniz field in the Caspian Sea's Azerbaijani sector to the gas transportation infrastructure in the second part of October, a source at SOCAR told Trend on Monday.

According to the source, SOCAR has already got ready to cut the unusable flange coupling at the heel of the field's emergency well.

"However, favourable weather conditions are needed for carrying out this work," the source said.

According to him, 10 days will be required, taking into account the work for cutting the coupling and commissioning the well.

A fire engulfed exploration well No.90 in the north-east wing of Bulla-Deniz on August 17. The sea depth at the field is 26.5 metres.

According to SOCAR, the ignition happened during drilling at a depth of 5868 metres.

An open gas blowout occurred at 23:30 local time, August 17 which was followed by a fire.

All 62 workers who were on the platform were evacuated to the shore and there were no casualties.
