Kura Energy Company to built 16 HPPs in Georgia

Georgian Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze and Director General of Kura Energy Anzor Kvaratskhelia signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding to build 16 new hydropower plants.

The Memorandum envisages a feasibility study of projects for construction of the new power plants. The company must complete the study for 27 months. Afterwards the technical data of HPP will be specified and the investor will start specific procedures for construction work.

The total capacity of the new HPPs foreseen by the memorandum, amounts to 331.6 MW and annual generation to 1,815 billion kilowatt hours.

About $ 600 million will be invested in the project. In the construction process 4,500 people will be employed, and after the plants' commissioning 400 permanent jobs will be created. The plants will be located along the Kura river.
