Astana will install 2,500 CCTV cameras for the EXPO-2017 International Exhibition, Minister of Internal Affairs Kalmukhanbet Kassymov said during the government hour in the Majilis (lower chamber of parliament) of Kazakhstan.

"We are working with the akims [governors] of the regions. For example, in Astana in the preparation and holding of the EXPO-2017 it is planned to install additional 2,500 CCTV cameras," Kassymov said.

The minister went on to say that 2,700 CCTV cameras operate today throughout the country in public places, including Astana - 694, and Almaty - 156. The minister added that with their help about 290,000 offenses were detected, and more than 1.7 thousand crimes were disclosed.

Interior Minister also said that every patrol officer in Kazakhstan will be equipped with a video recorder. He added that since last year all special forces soldiers participating in special operations have been provided with DVRs.

"This year we intend to provide every policeman serving in the streets and public places with a DVR. This will enable to strengthen the evidence base of the offenses being suppressed, as well as to solve many problems linked with the resolution of conflict situations," Kassymov stressed.
