Belarusian president says more beneficial agreements can be reached within EAU

Astana, Kazakhstan, May 29

By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

More beneficial agreements can be reached within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAU), Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on May 29.

He made the remarks at the meeting of the Supreme Economic Council in Astana.

"We deliberately came to the signing of the agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union, championed our interests, respected the positions of our partners, thoroughly analyzed the document and highlighted its positive sides," the president said.

"But I can't say that there is not some dissatisfaction. We still have opportunity to make our agreements better. As sincere and reliable partners, we will surely have talks with the Russian and Kazakh presidents."

"We have had to hear many accusations and pretensions. Our country doesn't demand any concessions. Each integration brings something that will be interesting for all. This contribution shouldn't be measured by cubic meters or barrels," the Belarusian president said.

He went on to add that each step came with difficulty.

"But we saw the main goal - to provide friendly relations among people and to make them sure that the development and strengthening of their states is based on their cooperation," Lukashenko said.

"Time showed that we have chosen the right path. Today, we have reached the finish line, which led us to the Eurasian Economic Union. I hope for mutual understanding and constructive approach towards resolving all the issues," Lukashenko stressed.
