A gas explosion at a coal mine has killed three miners near the city of Kuhbanan in Iran's south eastern province of Kerman, the country's Mehr news agency reported on Feb. 20.
Another six miners were injured in the incident, the report said. The condition of two is reported as being critical.
A number of workers were inside the mine at the time of explosion with the resulting collapse. Ten were trapped, but saved immediately by the rescue teams and their co-workers.
The mine was closed for two weeks due to 'failure to observe safety rules', governor of the Kuhbandan said, adding that the work has been resumed after some experts confirmed the mine's safety.
In recent years several deadly incidents have taken place at the Kerman coal mines.
In 2009, 12 miners were killed due to a gas explosion in a coal mine near Kerman`s city of Zarand.
Previously in 2005, an explosion at the same mine in Kerman killed nine people.
