Iran's Navy is planning to dispatch a flotilla to the Atlantic Ocean the next Iranian-calendar year, which is to begin March 20.
Announcing the news, Navy Commander Habibollah Sayyari said that being present in free seas shows Iranian Navy's capabilities in establishment of security, IRNA news agency reported March 18.
Previously, the Iranian Navy has dispatched fleets to the Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea, South China Sea, to the south of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.
Sayyari especially underlined the Iranian Navy's presence to the north of the Indian Ocean, as the area is a bottleneck from an economic standpoint.
The commander also pointed to the past-year achievements of the Iranian Navy, such as the development of the ship building industry and commissioning production line of high-standard destroyers.
