Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec.17 / Trend /

The New York Times published a letter of protest of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States in connection with the recent publication of a biased article about Nagorno Karabakh entitled "The National Womb" on this newspaper.

The letter says that Nagorno-Karabakh is neither a "disputed region" nor a "republic," but rather an integral and internationally recognized part of Azerbaijan under illegal occupation by neighboring Armenia.

The letter indicates that the illegal nature of the occupation and the expulsion of 750,000 citizens of Azerbaijan from the occupied territories, are widely recognized, and have been condemned by, among others, the United Nations Security Council.

The article also touched upon "birth encouragement program", applied by the separatist regime in occupied Azerbaijani territories.

"As for the children born in the region, the best way to ensure their safe and prosperous future is to resolve the protracted Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict, and not to manipulate the region's demography artificially based on one single ethnicity," the letter says.
