Azerbaijan's Khilli Sturgeon Fish Hatchery released half a million sturgeon fry into the Caspian Sea during 2010, journalists were told during an inspection of the plant organized by the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry to inform the public about the work carried out in the field of protection and increase of bio-resources in the Caspian.

Azerbaijan's Khilli Sturgeon Fish Hatchery released half a million sturgeon fry into the Caspian Sea during 2010, journalists were told during an inspection of the plant organized by the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry to inform the public about the work carried out in the field of protection and increase of bio-resources in the Caspian.

The event was part of the "Week of the Caspian Sea" program.

The Khilli hatchery in the Neftchala region was estabilshed in 2003 has since released 41 million sturgeon fry into the Caspian Sea.

The 15-hectare hatchery has a capacity of 15 million fingerlings a year. The water in which the fish are grown in weight from 150-200 grams to 10 kg is collected from the Kur River by treatment plants.
