French defense minister to visit Uzbekistan

A French delegation headed by Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian will today arrive in Tashkent on Monday, Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan said.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the French delegation will visit Uzbekistan to conduct bilateral negotiations. The report did not mention topics of upcoming negotiations, but, according to some observers the negotiations will focus on the Afghan problem, including the upcoming withdrawal of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in 2014.

According to figures released by NATO, at present, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has signed an agreement with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on the ground transit of goods and equipment through their territory, which will be transported from Afghanistan after combat operations will end in the country.

Earlier, the Alliance signed an agreement of the same content also with Russia.
