The first Turkish reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) ANKA and attack helicopter Atak of its own design will be commissioned in June 2012, the Milliyet newspaper quotes Turkish deputy defence industry minister Murad Bayar as saying.
According to Bayar, the UAV ANKA has carried out several test flights and no problems occurred. "Turkish Armed Forces ordered 10 additional UAVs which are built using Turkish expertise," he said.
Work to create ANKA has been conducted since 2004. About 180 engineers worked on the project. The UAV is the first independent development of Turkey in this sphere.
