NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has expressed his support for the reforms made in Georgia, and said it is important that the parliamentary and presidential elections in Georgia are free and fair.
This election will be a kind of test for Georgia, Rasmussen said in an interview with Georgian TV Company Imedi.
"Our message is clear. We welcome the progress made by Georgia in recent years, and support the reforms, which are now going on in the country. Given this, parliamentary and 2013 presidential elections will be very important. Moreover, they will be a test. NATO is a union of values, based on freedoms, democracy and the rule of law, and we want these principles to be implemented in our partner countries. Georgia has made great progress, and therefore it is very important that the forthcoming elections are free, fair and the same conditions is for all," Rasmussen said.
He will arrive in Tbilisi on September 6.
