Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili opened the Georgian-Ukrainian Business Forum in Tbilisi on April 26. According to him, Georgia may become a unique country to do business and officials will not be able to interfere in this regard.
"Georgia has a low complex tax of 16 per cent and this is very important for businessmen," he said. "Our country is at the crossroads of Europe and Asia with the Great Silk Road. Georgia will be a very attractive country for investors."
Georgian Deputy Prime Minister Kakha Kaladze, heads of Georgian and Ukrainian business associations, Ministers of Finance and Regional Development and Infrastructure are attending the forum.
The head of the Georgian Business Association Georgiy Pertaya said that agriculture, transport and logistics are the areas of interest for Ukrainian business people.
The Georgian Energy Minister said the largest amount of foreign investments fall to the energy sector. "If the Ukrainian investors show an interest, we will help them to do business," he said.
About 50 Ukrainian companies are represented at the business forum in Tbilisi. Kaladze proposed Ukrainian business people invest in the energy sector.
"Holding such a forum is very important," he said. "Relations are being intensified, but historically, Georgia and Ukraine have always been closely connected. The development of energy is very important for our country, like any other and the Georgian new government will do its best for the independence of the country's energy."
Kaladze added that the authorities plan to turn Georgia into an exporter of electricity in the near future.
"I would like to stress that most investments are made in power engineering and the government will greatly assist the businesses in this sector," Kaladze said.
