Georgian parliamentary minority wants statement on Ukraine

Tbilisi, Georgia, Dec. 11

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

The minority has again raised the question of adopting a special statement on Ukraine by the Georgian parliament. Deputy Chairman of the Georgian parliament Giorgi Baramidze made this proposal at the meeting of parliament on Wednesday.

The MP from the National Movement said that the Georgian parliament's silence will be unclear amid the statements in support of Ukraine, which other countries have made.

Chairman of the Parliament David Usupashvili advised the majority and minority to hold consultations on this issue.

Mass protests have been held in Ukraine since late November because the government suspended preparations for concluding an association agreement with the EU.

The government stressed the need to develop the economic relations with Russia and the CIS.

It was expected that the association agreement would be signed at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius, to be held on November 28-29.
