The confirmed death toll rose to 56 and more than 500 people were injured by a strong earthquake in south-western China province of Sichuan, state media reported Saturday.
The deputy chief of a hospital in Lushan county said 135 victims were in serious condition, the official Xinhua news agency said, dpa reported.
