Armenian language not necessary for Armenian citizenship

Armenian parliament adopted amendments on 'The Citizenship of Armenia" law in the first reading, News.am reported.

The bill withdraws the requirement to pass the exam in the Armenian language on Armenian Constitution. The law states that certain groups of people (Armenian by origin, spouse of Armenian citizens, parents of a child of Armenian citizenship) get the citizenship without having lived in the state or the knowledge of the language. Passing the exam in the Armenian language on Armenian Constitution is also withdrawn.

Children of 14-18 years old, whose parents have received the citizenship, may get it providing written statement.
