Bashar al-Assad can stay in power in the period of transition government in Syria, Hurriyet newspaper reported Aug. 20 citing Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.
Over the next six months, Turkey will play an active role in the settlement of the Syrian crisis, said Yildirim.
He noted that after the formation of a transition government in Syria, Assad must leave his post.
Ankara won’t allow dividing Syria into separate states, added the prime minister.
Earlier, Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said that Turkey, as other countries, was not successful in its policy towards Syria.
Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed over 500,000 lives.
Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops. The “Islamic State” (IS, ISIL, ISIS or Daesh) is the most active terrorist group in Syria.
