Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 4 / Trend H. Valiyev /

The Institute of Information Technology under the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences launched education roaming (Eduroam) on the basis of AzScienceNet academic computer network, the Institute told Trend on Monday.

At present, the service is used in a test mode in the institute.

The Institute directly negotiates with the Trans-European association of research and educational institutions to register Eduroam service in this organization to get a national status.

The registration procedure is expected to be completed for the next two weeks.

Eduroam service was created by the working group of the Trans-European association of research and educational institutions (TERENA). It provided an opportunity to combine the network infrastructure. It also provides a common link between all the research and education networks.

At present, Eduroam is deployed in more than 35 research and educational institutions in Europe.

Eduroam service will allow employees of scientific institutions and the education system to get free access to the Internet during business trips.

A user can connect to the Internet using his username and password, which are valid only in "educational roaming".

Each organization has its own server providing authentication of users on the network.
