Azerbaijan is planning to begin delivery of electricity to the Turkish market, the Head of Azerenergy (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan) Etibar Pirverdiyev told reporters on Saturday.

According to him, the work on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of power grids from Azerbaijan to the border with Georgia has already been completed within the Energy Bridge project, aimed to link Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey's power systems. The construction of power grids on the territory of Azerbaijan has also been completed.

"I believe that the work on the territory of Turkey will be completed by late this year and Azerbaijani electric power will be able to enter the Turkish market," Pirverdiyev said.

Within the first stage, the capacity of power grids will provide the supply of 350 megawatts of electricity, with 700 megawatts within the second stage.

In Pirverdiyev's words, the quotas, determining the share of electricity to be exported by Azerbaijan, are currently being discussed with Georgian and Turkish sides.

The capacity of power plants owned by Azerenergy is more than six thousand megawatts. The company owns more than 200 substations with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kV, as well as 6 hydropower stations and 13 thermal power stations.
