Joining the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) will provide information security for Afghanistan, Afghan Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Amirzai Sangin said at a briefing in Baku.

According to the minister, this will also positively impact further reduction of tariffs for Internet services in the country.

"Our participation in the TASIM project is directly linked to cooperation with regional countries. And to that end, we are now beginning to collaborate with a number of countries in the region, through which we can join the project," he said.

TASIM is a regionally significant project aimed at laying transnational fiber-optic lines covering Eurasian countries from Western Europe to Eastern Asia.

As the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan said earlier, the formation of an alliance within the TASIM project will be officially announced in September.

The project envisages the creation of a major transit line from Frankfurt to Hong Kong. The network will bring together the biggest information exchange centers of Europe and Asia.

Five countries (Azerbaijan, China, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkey) have joined the project so far, while Georgia, Bulgaria and Ukraine are expected to join it in the near future.

Overall, it is planned to lay two main lines within the project, of which will pass through the territory of Ukraine and the second - through Turkey. Both lines will be independent and interchangeable. The operators of these countries act as connecting links with the major European operators.

TASIM project is designed to connect a total of 20 countries. Its implementation will eliminate the "information gap" between Western Europe and the Pacific Rim.
