Azerbaijan to increase spending on food security in 2014

The specific weight of expenditures on agriculture, forestry, fishing, hunting and environmental protection in the total expenditures of Azerbaijan's state budget will increase by 0.3 percentage points - to 2.8 per cent in 2014, the draft state budget for 2014 said.

The expenditures on these purposes will amount to 562.9 million manat in 2014 which will exceed the actual figure of 2012 by 20.2 per cent and the prognosis for 2013 by 13.9 per cent.

Some 536 million manat of this sum is planned to be sent for the financial support of agriculture and forestry, land reclamation, irrigation system; about 26.9 million manat to fish-farming, environmental protection, hydrometeorology, land reform, geodesy, topography, cartography, and other works.

Meanwhile, it is planned so allocate 131 million manat for the financing of "State Program on the Reliable Supply of Food Products to the Population for 2008-2015", which exceeds the figure of 2013 by 6 million manat or 4.8 per cent.

According to the draft state budget of Azerbaijan for 2014, the expenditures of the state budget for the next year is expected to amount to 20.063 billion manat (34.3 per cent of GDP).

The expenditures will increase by 1.1 per cent in 2014 compared to 2013 and by 15.2 per cent compared to the actual figure of 2012.

Official exchange rate on October 12 is 0.7843 AZN/USD.
