By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

PEYK plant under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense Industry is preparing tuner production for receiving the DVB-S satellite television standard, PEYK told Trend on Feb. 25.

At present, the negotiations on the supply of these devices for national satellite TV operator - SmartTVPlus are being held, the plant said.

The devices will be equipped with card readers and a conditional access system for paid TV channels. A satellite TV service provider can use an encryption system, which will protect the content from illegal viewing in combination with protected receivers.

PEYK plant was built in Azerbaijan in 1993 with the participation of the French consortium "MUP Industrie GIE". The plant operated as part of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Special Engineering & Conversion from 1993-2005.

The plant passed to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense Industry in September 2006.
