The number of registered websites with an .az domain zone increased by seven per cent in the first quarter of 2014 and reaching 22,113 units, WHOIS resource reported on March 31.
Some 20,667 units of the total number of registered websites accounted for Internet resources registered in the domain at the first level.
The most popular second level domain is .com.az, where some 863 websites were registered. The third place in popularity takes the edu.az domain with 181 websites.
The most populated domain zone is .com where more than 113.6 million registered domains were registered, according to world statistics. Whereas .net takes second place with more than 15.2 million names, in third place .de has 13.7 million websites.
The national domain zone .az officially started operating on August 25, 1993. The registration of .az costs 20 manats.
The official exchange rate on March 31, is 0,7843 AZN / USD.
