BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. Belgium and Azerbaijan have the opportunity to collaborate in the realm of renewable energy, Belgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Michel Peetermans told Trend.
"Belgian companies continue to participate in the development of solar energy in Nakhchivan. In November 2022, I had the opportunity to visit the “Babek” solar power plant along with other heads of EU missions. Thus, there is potential for cooperation in the field of renewable energy, but not only. Belgium also holds leading positions in many sectors, including those related to the energy transition, as well as in the fields of “green” hydrogen, aerospace, biopharmaceuticals and biosciences, nuclear medicine, transport and logistics, and the development of digital industries such as microelectronics, artificial intelligence, and digitalization," the ambassador emphasized.
Peetermans highlighted the presence of a robust
biopharmaceutical ecosystem in Belgium, which includes companies,
universities, research institutes, university hospitals, and
bio-incubators.
He claims that Belgium boasts over 37 pharmaceutical manufacturing
sites, 23 headquarters of pharmaceutical companies, and at least 52
research and development (R&D) and/or clinical trial
centers.
Furthermore, the ambassador highlighted the presence of various
logistical structures in Belgium, including the airports of
Brussels and Liège, the Antwerp-Bruges port, and more.
"On the other hand, Belgium's industrial base mainly consists of dynamic and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the global market. Considering the real business opportunities that exist in Azerbaijan, I hope that trade between our countries will develop in the coming years, including thanks to the COP29, which will undoubtedly attract a number of Belgian companies," the ambassador concluded.
