Qualification tournament among duets in synchronized swimming in voluntary, held within the framework of the first ever European Games, has ended.

Athletes from 20 countries, including Azerbaijan, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Spain, Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine took part in the voluntary.

Synchronized female swimmers from Russia, who scored 89.2333 points in pairs, took the first place in the qualification tournament, female athletes from Ukraine (87.5333 points) took the second place, while female athletes from Spain took the third place (85.7333 points).

Azerbaijan in this kind of sports at the European Games was represented by two synchronized female swimmers - Tatyana Nikitina and Ekaterina Valiulina, who scored 71.4333 points in pairs. Azerbaijani duet of synchronized female swimmers, who took the 18th place, did not enter the final.

Synchronized swimming opened the competition program within European Games. The final of the two qualifications [duet and the team one] on synchronized swimming will be held on June 15.

Competitions in water polo will also take place today.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
