Completion period of Sangachal terminal’s modernization revealed

Units for the processing of gas and condensate at the Sangachal terminal within the framework of the second stage of the Shah Deniz gas condensate field development in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea will be ready by mid-October 2017, a source on the oil and gas market of Azerbaijan told Trend Nov.26.

Work on the expansion and modernization of the terminal is conducted by the consortium of AMEC-Tekfen-Azfen (ATA). The contract is worth $998 million.

"It is planned to complete all the technical work within modernization in mid-October 2017," said the source. "The contract provides for the construction of units for the processing of gas and condensate, power plants, gas storage facilities and a pipeline at the terminal for the transit of gas and condensate, as well as reconstruction work at the terminal operating in Sangachal. This will allow to additionally process up to 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year."

As part of the second stage of the field's development, gas will be exported to Turkey and European markets by expanding the South Caucasus gas pipeline and the construction of Trans-Anatolian (TANAP) and Trans-Adriatic (TAP) gas pipelines.

As part of the implementation of the Shah Deniz project, the annual gas production volume will increase from 9 billion cubic meters (within the first phase) by additional 16 billion cubic meters in the second phase.
