The new IMF mission chief for Azerbaijan Mohammed El Qorchi will come to Baku with a one-day visit December 21, the Azerbaijani government told Trend Dec.4.
He assumed his duties since December 1, 2015.
"Meetings in the Ministry of Finance, Central Bank of Azerbaijan, SOCAR and the State Oil Fund are planned during the visit," said the source.
Mohammed El Qorchi replaced Raja Al Marzouqi at this position, who left his post at the IMF in connection with the return to his country - Saudi Arabia. Al Marzouqi led mission for Azerbaijan since 2012.
The new head of the mission has 23 years of work experience in the Fund, and was head of the IMF mission for Djibouti and Libya. He is the Assistant Director of the IMF Middle East and Central Asia Department.
El Qorchi is a citizen of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Azerbaijan joined the IMF in 1992. The cooperation was particularly intense in the period of 1995-2005. During these years, Azerbaijan often used the advisory and financial assistance of the IMF to support the government's economic programs.
The IMF office was opened in Baku in 1992. Despite its staff being reduced since 1999, it remains an important partner of the Azerbaijani government.
