Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 8

A concept of employment will be prepared in Azerbaijan within three months, which will cover the years 2016-2025, Azerbaijani Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population Salim Muslimov said.
He made the remarks Feb. 8 at a workshop on employment policy.
"For that, a working group has been established in the ministry, which included representatives of 21 structures, including NGOs and social partners," he said.
Muslimov went on to add that development of macroeconomic policy, entrepreneurship, assessment of the demographic burden on the labor market and employment policy are among the priorities of the concept.
The minister said that the concept will also make it possible to improve the information provision on the development of the labor market, strengthen social protection of the unemployed and job seekers.
Muslimov said that the new concept is being prepared in collaboration with a number of international bodies such as the International Labour Organization, the World Bank, the UN Population Fund.
Noting that the current workshop is also a result of this cooperation, he expressed hope that the event will contribute to the formation of the employment policy for 10 years.
"Employment policy, which was implemented earlier, made it possible to open more than 1.5 million new jobs in Azerbaijan and reduce the unemployment rate from 7.4 percent in 2004 to 4.9 percent - in 2015, strengthen social protection of the unemployed and vulnerable groups of population," he said.
The minister also noted that in terms of demography, Azerbaijan is one of the few countries in Europe and the CIS with fast-growing population.
"In 2005-2015, the population of Azerbaijan increased by 13.6 percent," he said. "Currently, citizens aged under 14 years account for 22.4 percent of the population, 15-64 years - 71.6 percent, over 65 years - six percent. At the same time, 28.1 percent of the population accounts for young people aged 15-29 years."
