Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR will start a specific study of the issue of acquiring filling station assets of the OMV Austrian oil and gas group in Turkey in fall 2016, CEO of SOCAR Turkey Enerji Zaur Gahramanov told reporters in Baku.

He said that SOCAR is specifically interested in these assets.

"The OMV hasn't yet provided information to the market about its state of assets," Gahramanov said. "It was expected that this would be done in June 2016, but the issue was delayed until September 2016. Therefore, when the information is disclosed we will thoroughly consider it, as we are interested in these assets. We must create some distribution network linked to the Star refinery in Turkey, and we will do it in one way or another," said Gahramanov.

Earlier, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev confirmed that SOCAR is interested in acquiring filling station assets of the OMV in Turkey.

The OMV previously stated that it sells its Turkish subsidiary OMV Petrol Ofisi A.S., since it intends to focus on production enterprises, as well as integrated activity on oil refining within the framework of its strategy.

In this regard, OMV starts the process of selling up to 100 percent in the OMV Petrol Ofisi A.S., which owns one of Turkey's largest filling station networks.
