EY Azerbaijan sponsored the Azerbaijan Business Case Competition (ABCC), which was held at the Hilton Baku Hotel on 3 December 2017.

This year, 26 teams from 5 universities participated in the competition: ADA University, Baku Engineering University, Azerbaijan State Economic University, Academy of Azerbaijan State Customs Committee, and Baku Higher Oil School. Only 16 teams out of 26 made it to the semi-final stage, and just four teams qualified for the final.

The four finalists were required to develop solutions for cases. Evaluations were based on their critical business thinking, financial analysis, marketing strategy, and presentation skills, including their preparation for the Q&A stage.

The team from Baku Engineering University (Huseyn Mammadov, Jafar Jafarov, Lala Rustamli and Gazanfar Karimli) won the competition and were awarded 6,000 AZN.

Turgay Teymurov, EY Assurance Partner, was in the final jury at the ABCC and shared: “This competition is a big business event among the students, and a huge investment in nurturing the future business leaders of Azerbaijan. I would like to congratulate the winning team and wish them every success in their future endeavors.”

About ABCC

The Azerbaijan Business Case Competition is an annual contest where student teams from Azerbaijan’s top universities participate. It has been held since 2002 and celebrated its 15th anniversary this year. Volunteers of the MBA Enterprise Corps decided to launch this project due to the limited popularity of business case analysis in Azerbaijan. Since 2006, the right to hold this competition has been granted to the US-Educated Azerbaijani Alumni Association (AAA). Over 1,000 very talented students have so far participated in this project.

The US-Educated AAA is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in October 2003 that unites alumni of the State Department educational exchange programs, Azerbaijan State Program alumni, and self-funded students who have studied in Azerbaijan.
