In January-May 2019, the country's energy facilities generated electricity and rendered services for the distribution of electricity, gas and steam in the amount of 847.7 million manats, which by 0.4 percent more than in the same period of 2018, Trend reports referring to Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.
In total, 9.991 megawatt-hours of electricity were generated in January-May 2019, which is 4.4 percent more than in the same period of 2018. Some 9.645 megawatt-hours of that volume accounted for commercial electricity, which is by 4.7 percent than in the same period of 2018.
Most of electricity accounts for thermal power plants - 8.896 megawatt-hours in January-May 2019, which is by 5.3 percent more than in the same period of 2018. Some 683.3 kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated by hydroelectric power plants, which is by 8.2 percent less than in the same period of 2018.
The generation of alternative electricity also increased. Thus, wind power plants and solar power plants generated 48.6 kWh of energy and 16.7 kWh of energy, respectively. The volume of electricity generated through solar power plants increased by 10.6 percent, while the volume of electricity generated through wind power plants increased sevenfold in January-May 2019 compared to the same period of 2018.
The share of alternative energy in the total production is still small.
The services worth 128.8 million manats were rendered in the field of water supply and recycling of household waste in January-May 2019, which is eight percent more than in the same period of 2018.
In January-May 2019, 184.9 million cubic meters of water were purified and distributed, which is 10.8 percent more than in the same period of 2018.
