Baku’s internet provider discloses innovative and exclusive solutions in ICT field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8

By Sadraddin Agjayev – Trend:

Being a strategically important structure, which is obliged to render TV and internet services without interruption, Azerbaijan’s KATV1 operator works intensively in such a difficult period, Ali Aliyev, head of KATV1 marketing department, told Trend.

“The staff of KATV1 operator also works online,” Aliyev added. “So, today more than 40 percent of office employees (call center and client office operators, dispatchers, accountants, assistants, lawyers, marketing and analytics managers and others) work at home.”

“The processes of watching video content and surfing the internet have grown,” Aliyev said. “In general, all this gave a huge load on the internet, in which daily traffic growth increased by 20 percent while peak volumes of streaming traffic growth reached 40 percent.”

“The aggregation level and service peripheral routers are mainly affected, where the demand is approaching a threshold level,” head of the department said. “The peripheral segments and peer-to-peer channels have enough reserves in content delivery networks.”

“We are also observing rapid growth in the use of delay-sensitive applications,” head of the department added. “Moreover, this growth occurs during working hours. The use of video conferencing resources (Zoom, Skype, Teams and others), as well as computer games has increased.”

“Given the increase in internet traffic, the company has reserved and allocated additional resources,” Aliyev said. “The company is expanding the capabilities of the data center to enhance the access to a high-quality high-speed network."

“Taking into account that KATV1 actively supports the development of e-sports in Azerbaijan, the negotiations are underway with computer game producers to place the games in the company’s data center to support streaming over local networks,” head of the department said.

“Taking into account the great demand for cinema and serial content, it is planned to develop a VOD platform (Transactional Video on Demand - access to video, limited either by the number of views or by time) by offering a huge content in the Azerbaijani language,” head of the department added.

“For this purpose, the operator plans to purchase the rights to broadcast foreign films and TV serials, which will be duplicated and placed free of charge for its internet users,” Aliyev said.
