The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Abbas Mousavi emphasized the importance of development of economic relations between Tehran and Baku.
"Considering the special circumstances of the country and the sanctions against Iran, the development of economic relations and trade with neighbors will play an important role in Tehran`s diplomatic relations with these countries,” Mousavi said during the meeting with the Governor of East Azerbaijan Province MohammadReza Pour-Mohammadi, Trend reports citing IRNA.
Mousavi went on to say that the border provinces of Iran have very important and decisive role in the development of such relations.
“East Azerbaijan Province can play a special role here, due to its facilities and appropriate commercial, economic and industrial infrastructure," said the official.
Mousavi also mentioned the high capacities of East Azerbaijan in various fields.
Referring to the transit role of Tabriz city as an influential factors of East Azerbaijan on the political and economic relations between Tehran and Baku, he said East Azerbaijan Province must increase its efforts by using the capacities of the private sector to achieve the common economic and macro goals of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Republic of Azerbaijan.
Mousavi also mentioned the development of cultural, academic and scientific relations as another priority for the development of Iran's relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Mousavi said that Iranian investors currently have a significant presence in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
"Efforts should be made for Azerbaijani investors to have an equally effective presence in Iran,” he pointed out.
