BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 16
Trend:
The passenger traffic of Azerbaijan's international airports amounted to 290,000 people in January 2022, increasing more than fourfold compared to 2021, Trend reports referring to the Press Service of Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
The positive trend was affected by the gradual easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, as well as growing number of countries allowed to enter Azerbaijan by air. However, passenger traffic remained below the pre-pandemic result of January 2020, when it totaled 395,000 people.
Heydar Aliyev International Airport accounted for 233,000 people out of the total number of passengers (80 percent of the total passenger traffic). The basic airlines of Baku - AZAL and Buta Airways, transported 91,000 and 28,000 people, which was 39.1 percent and 12.1 percent of the passenger traffic share, respectively.
In January, 23 foreign airlines made flights to the Baku airport.
Air carriers operate flights from Azerbaijan to Turkey, Russia, UAE, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Qatar, Israel, Germany, Great Britain, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.
Heydar Aliyev International Airport (IATA: GYD) is the largest airport in Azerbaijan and the region by passenger and cargo traffic, landing operations, air terminal complex, and cargo complex capacity.
In 2021, Heydar Aliyev International Airport received a 5-star COVID-19 Safety Rating for airports during the COVID-19 pandemic from the Skytrax International air transport rating agency.
