BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 28. The Kars-Nakhchivan railway will be put into operation within five years, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye said, Trend reports.
"Technical preparations for the construction of the Kars-Nakhchivan railway project are continuing, a feasibility study has been approved. The new transport project provides for the construction of a railway line with a length of 224 kilometers. It is planned to build five stations. As part of the project, 10 bridges with a length of 638 meters, 465 drainage channels with a length of 18 kilometers, and 144 underpasses with a total length of 5.5 kilometers will be built," said the ministry.
In addition, economic transport opportunities will be provided by reducing travel time along the east-west axis, increasing load capacity, and using alternative energy. With the implementation of this project, the London-Beijing rail line will become a non-stop alternative. The Iron Silk Road, which will stretch from London to China, will ensure the transportation of manufactured products directly to consumer centers.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the "Protocol of Intent on the Kars-Nakhchivan Railway Project between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Türkiye" on September 25.
