Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict to be Discussed at OIC Session

Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 January / The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be discussed at a Parliamentary Union of the Organization for Islamic Conference (OIC) session. "The Nagorno-Karabakh issue is included on the OIC agenda. At the end of discussions the Parliamentary Union will pass a resolution on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," MP Govhar Bakhshaliyeva, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the OIC Parliamentary Union, said to Trend on 22 January.

According to Bakhshaliyeva, she will deliver a report on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. "I will tell the participants of the session that Nagorno-Karabakh, being an Azerbaijani territory, reflects the culture of Islam. Historical monuments and mosques were destroyed in the region which is under the Armenian occupation. Drugs and arms are smuggled through the territory, radioactive substances are buried there," she said.

The Parliamentary Union session will take place in Cairo, Egypt, from 27 to 31 January. Azerbaijan will be represented by MPs Govhar Bakhshaliyeva, Sabir Rustamkhanli and Khanhuseyn Kazimli.

The session will discuss the situation in Palestine, Iraq and the Darfur region of Sudan; liberation of occupied Jerusalem and Palestinian territories, call to restoration of Palestinians' rights; ridding the Middle East, including Israel, of weapons of mass destruction, as well as the Iranian nuclear program.
