Anniversary of Khojali Tragedy to be Marked in   Israel

Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 January /corr. Trend R.Abdullayev, E.Huseynov / The Congress of the Azerbaijanis in Middle East will mark anniversary of 1992 mass massacre in Azerbaijan's city of Khojali for the first time in Israel on 24 February. "The Congress, for the first time in Israel, intends to officially mark anniversary of Khojali Tragedy, bringing together the senior officials of the country," the President of the Congress, Alex Shapiro-Suliman, reported to Trend on 26 January.

The Khojali Tragedy took place on 26 February 1992 during active occupation operations of the Armenian armed forces in Azerbaijan's region of Nagorno-Karabakh. According to official data, as a result, 613 innocent people (including 106 women and 83 children) were killed, more than 1275 people were taken prisoner, 150 became missing, 487 became invalid.

"We intend to present to the attention of the Israeli community more realities about the Khojali Tragedy," the President of the Congress said. According to him, the event will take place through support from Turkey's Embassy in Israel, as well as special support of Ambassador Namig Tan. "We will demonstrate photos, video materials and spread publications, brochures and CD reflecting realities about the Khojali Genocide, which joined Azerbaijan's history as one the wildest and most tragic pages," Suliman said.
