Israel’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Tells about Opening Ceremony of Friendship Park

Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 April / Trend corr S. Ilhamgizi/ Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan Arthur Lenk told about opening ceremony of Azerbaijani-Israel Friendship Park in Baku to be held on 8 May - Day of occupation of Shusha, Azerbaijani region.

"8 May is the Day of Israel's independence. Therefore, it was decided to open the Park on that day. In Azerbaijan 8 May is not an official mourning day," Lenk said to Trend .

Karabakh Liberation Organization (KLO) protests against opening of the Friendship Park on 8 May. Organization applied to the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan in this connection. KLO insists that it is inadmissible to hold such event on the day of Shusha's occupation. According to KLO, holding of the event on that day will offend the memory of Azerbaijani war victims and will be irrespective to Azerbaijani nation.

Lenk said that the date of the event had been coordinated with Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, because officially 8 May is a working day and is not a mourning one. Israeli Embassy understands discontent of Azerbaijani public and is going to honour the memory of war victims during the opening ceremony.

"The Embassy offered KLO to plant a three in the Park in honour of Shusha victims who died in the Karabakh war. However, KLO rejected the offer," Lenk said.
