Over 3mln sq m territory of Azerbaijan cleared of mines and unexploded ammunition in April

In April 2009, 3,335,051 square metre territories of Azerbaijan were cleared from mines and unexploded ammunition (PHS), the Azerbaijani National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) press service said.

A total of 27,811 PHS and mines were found and neutralized.

Some 425 specialists and 115 support staff attended the operations.

So far, ANAMA has cleared 100,531,838 square metre of territory and neutralized 425,924 unexploded ammunition and mines.

The monitoring covers Tartar, Agdam, Fuzuli, Tovuz, Agjabadi and Agstafa regions and Samukh region.

No PHS or mine explosion has been registered in April 2009.

A mine blast took place when Zahid Heydarov and Dursun Heydarov was burning fence of their land in Kochvelli village on April 13.

They received slight injuries as a result of the blast.
