Azerbaijani MP, Ombudsman visit military unit

The member of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Ganira Pashayeva and Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova visited a military unit in the Tovuz region of the country on the occasion of Ramadan holiday.

The guests met with the soldiers, acquainted with the conditions they are based, presented them gifts.

The guests noted significant achievements in building a strong army of dynamically developing Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani army is today considered one of the strongest in the region, and logistics of the country's armed forces has been considerably strengthened.

The guests appreciated the high psychological and military training of soldiers and their readiness at any moment to liberate the occupied territories.

"I believe that in the month of Ramadan, every Azerbaijani prayed for the liberation of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, and to celebrate the next holiday in the liberated lands," said Pashayeva at a meeting with the soldiers.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
