France hosts activities in commemoration of Khojali tragedy

The Centre of Cooperation of Azerbaijanis and other Turkic peoples (CCATP) jointly with the Azerbaijan House in Strasbourg hold a series of activities in connection with the 18-th anniversary of the Khojali tragedy in Paris and Strasbourg Feb.24-28, the CCATP said.

The Centre of Cooperation of Azerbaijanis and other Turkic peoples (CCATP) jointly with the Azerbaijan House in Strasbourg hold a series of activities in connection with the 18-th anniversary of the Khojali tragedy in Paris and Strasbourg Feb.24-28, the CCATP said.

The events are attended by Azerbaijani delegation, which includes Presidential Administration sector head Gafar Aliyev , chairman of the Milli Mejlis (Parliament) Committee for regional issues Arif Rahimzade, MP Akram Abdullayev, the CCATP chairman Ilham Ismayilov, Chairman of the Charitable Society Kur-Khazar Akif Karimov and intelligentsia representative Nadir Orujov.

The Azerbaijani delegation met with the Azerbaijani Ambassador in France Elchin Amirbeyov and representatives of the Diaspora in France Feb.24. The meeting discussed issues of joint cooperation with the Diaspora organizations in France.

Armenian troops committed genocide in Khojali on Feb. 26, 1992. The tragedy began early morning. Within hours, over 613 unarmed Azerbaijani citizens were killed. Among them were 106 women and 83 children. About 1,000 people were disabled by shots; 8 families were fully destroyed. A total of 25 children lost both of their parents and 130 children lost one of them. About 1,275 people were taken prisoner and around 150 people went missing. Eight families were completely killed.
